Tiding Of Comfort And Joy

This was the first year we've been in our own home for Christmas.  It was an incredibly peaceful and joyful time made even more special because we were joined by Craig's mom (who moved to our town last week!) and his brother and family.  

The last week has been filled with cookie baking with grandma, ZooLights and hippos, Santa Train with neighbors, Skyping with grandparents and uncles, Christmas eve at Grandpa's, Elves visiting with pajamas, candlelight service.  A long, slow and joyful Christmas day.  Best of all, new memories with cousins.

In Preparation For

I was thinking this week, as I scrubbed out the fridge and made a shopping list, (and another shopping list and then another shopping list) and strategized how to clean the house with a two person wreaking crew in residence, how thankful I am for this life.

I am thankful for our home, that our family can live and play and work comfortably, and that we can welcome friends and family.    For the food we eat, not just in celebration, but the food we eat every day.  For my family's health. For my husband, who is generous and hard working and cares so well for our family. For my children, just as they are.  This week, I am giving thanks, in preparation for giving thanks.

Labor of Love

Kids, cooking and knitting.  It's a lot of work, but I love it all!

C is for Cape

For Colton and our nephews, I made these super hero capes for Christmas.  As much as I really wish I could sew, and despite the fact that I have taken a sewing class, I'm not very good at it.  It is possible that I'm really bad at it.  I had to rip one entire cape apart and half of another and resew them.  But I pressed on (ha!), with the sewing machine scrunched onto Craig's desk, crawling around on the floor cutting fabric, with a determined scowl on my face.

The pattern was easy to follow, just do exactly like she says.  I used two colors for each cape, all four are black in the inside.  And I added the felt letters by free handing a stencil, cutting the felt, then I hand sewed them on with embroidery floss.

I going to make on for Audrey's birthday next month.  It may build my sewing confidence!

Home Again

We spent Christmas in California with my family again.  It was a nice long visit.  We watched lots of movies and eat lots of cookies.  We had big, hot breakfasts and coffee after dinner.  Spent days with my grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles, cousins and their children.

Took trips to the park, when we had sunshine, and marveled at the citrus fruit dripping from trees like orange and yellow jewels.  Played play dough with Audrey and shooed Colton away from the Christmas tree.  Uncle Matt was the star of the trip. playing hours of The Eeek! Game, a game Audrey has created, in which you say "EEEK!" alot.

And now we're home again.  Thanks Mom and Dad for a wonderful visit!

Today

Busy day, bright day, powdered sugar day.  Audrey has put on her party dress and I don't think she's ever going to take it off.  We somehow managed to get a Christmas card photo that's not too blurry and both kids are happy.  Powdered sugar (for something I'll share later) is covering my counter and floor like a blizzard and we are still waiting for our first snow fall.   But we are most definitely in the holiday spirit.
